Liz Kleppinger, Sophomore

Kylie Jenner released her long awaited lip kit on November 30 at 9am on Within minutes, the website had crashed, nothing would load, and I was stuck with the loading spinwheel of death. KYLIE BROKE MY INTERNET! The next several times I checked the website, my screen flashed with an image of glossed lips with text written over that said ‘we are experiencing more traffic than expected. Please check back in 15 minutes.’ KYLIE, COME ON. After about two hours, I gave up and accepted defeat that I, Liz Kleppinger, was not getting the Kylie Jenner lip kit. Everything was sold out.

Not to worry, though, because there will be another chance to buy them before Christmas time, as noted by Kylie’s recent tweet. The exact date has not been released yet.

The youngest Jenner sister is known for having voluminous lips that are always coated in some signature shade of nude. So of course, she would release beauty products for lips in natural hues. Her creation was available in three shades: True Brown K, Candy K, and Dolce K. Each included a matte liquid lipstick and a pencil lip liner sold for $29.

Awhile ago it became known that Kylie Jenner’s classic lip color was M•A•C Cosmetics   Whirl which is listed as a matte lipstick in a ‘dirty rose’ color. This lipstick retails for $17 on M•A•C’s website and the matching lip pencil can be picked up for $16.50. Her makeup artist has since then changed her signature lip look, which can be found on her new app. Can you guess the name of her app? Kylie. Yes, she named the app after her name. It can be downloaded from the Apple Appstore for free, but to access the app you have to put in credit card information and will be charged around $8 a month. Sorry Kylie-- nice try, but you are not getting my money so easily.

Her app may drain your debit card account and her lipstick may have sold out in minutes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get the Kylie Jenner lip look. Here are some nude lip colors that have the approval of the Emmaus High School beauty community.

Myth by M•A•C - listed as a ‘light neutral nude’ in the finish satin, sold for $17

Velvet Teddy by M•A•C - listed as a “deep-toned beige’ in a matte finish, sold for $17

Nude and The City by Rimmel London Cosmetics #730 - can be purchased at your local drugstore

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creme in Stockholm  - This can be purchased at Target or online for $6.

Amsterdam by Buxom - listed as a ‘rosy nude’, sold for $19

Nudelust #920 by Maybelline - can be purchased at any local drugstore

Syrah by Bite Beauty - listed as a ‘peach nude’, sold for $24

Listed above are a variety of nudes for all skin tones, but none are what beauty gurus call ‘dupes.’ So if you are looking for an exact Kylie color without waiting for her kit to be restocked, I got you covered!

The first color is #lipkitbykylie’s True Brown K. This color is a rich deep chocolate brown that is very pigmented, and I think I found the perfect match -- Maybelline’s COLORsensational lipstick in the shade #955 Expresso Exposed. Maybelline is a drugstore brand so don’t worry; it won’t break your bank. Also it is available in large quantities in almost any drugstore so it WON’T sell out in minutes.

The second color is Candy K which has more of a ‘your lips but better’ color with a slight tint of pink. The replacement I found was NYX lipstick in the color #628 Tea Rose. I personally love NYX lipstick. It goes on really creamy, and 10 out of 10 recommend!

The third and final color is Dolce K which is a bit darker than your natural lip color with a tint of brown without being too chocolatey. Sorry Kylie, my girl Kate Moss is replacing you. Rimmel London and Kate Moss have a line of drugstore lipsticks together that have my lips’ approval. The one I found that is closest to Dolce K is #14.

P.S. Make sure to line your lips first to pull off the Kylie Jenner plumped up lip. Protip: over-line a bit in the centers of the lips on top and bottom but exactly line on the sides and corners.
