How to: A Successful, Stress Free Vacation

Packing last minute? Rushing to catch your flight because you're running late? Feeling stressed while going on vacation? If this sounds like you, you might be spoiling your own vacation. Recently, I went to Florida for vacation, and I did all of the things listed above. I had nothing packed, we had to fly out a day early, wait in the airport for 2 hours after rushing to get there and stressing about drama I couldn't control almost ruined my vacation. I missed the small things that made me happy, like the waves crashing into the beach. Then I realized you can't be happy on vacation, if you are worrying about things that are out of your control or stressing about what had gone wrong in the past. So I came up with a few tips and tricks that helped me have one of the best vacations thus far.

  1. Plan ahead to avoid over-packing- Look up the weather a week before and pack accordingly. If it’s going to be 90° and sunny, don’t pack long sleeves and jeans. Likewise if it’s going to be cold and rainy, don’t pack shorts and sandals. Plan your outfits ahead of time and pack them together. Personally I would suggest bringing clothes that you can mix and match, which will save you time and space. Don’t wait until last minute to pack everything, you risk the chance of forgetting to pack something and will cause stress if you’re running around trying to find your clothing.

  2. Be spontaneous- Don’t think, just do!

  3. Disconnect to reconnect- Disconnect from technology for a little bit each day. It will help you reconnect with yourself and nature. If you’re constantly on your phone, you will miss the things happening around you and your vacation will go by in a blink of an eye. Instead of snapchatting, go on a hike or visit a national park and reconnect with nature. It’s a wonderful thing and will make you forget your stress and drama from back home.

  4. Don't stress the little things- Stressing about things you can't control will make your vacation feel more rushed, and you will feel more disappointed if things don't go as planned. Try to go with the flow, and try new things even if you think it will turn out to be a bad experience.

  5. Relax- Don't feel like you have to do everything your vacation spot has to offer. Take a personal day to relax and rejuvenate your body and mind. You will feel a hundred times better if you aren't rushing from one activity to the next. Take a breath, it’s your vacation so enjoy it while it lasts!
