Katie's Fall To Do List

It’s that time of year again, full of pumpkin-flavored everything and crisp, autumn nights. Between pumpkin patch trips, bonfires, fall festivals, hayrides, and corn mazes, it can be hard to keep track of all the activities available to you throughout the best month of the year. Here’s how to make the most of your fall season.

Pumpkin Picking

You're never too old to go to the pumpkin patch! There are so many great local places to go and pick some pumpkins. Find your fave and then take it home to carve a Carve a jack-o-lantern or funny face. (Don’t forget to keep the seeds and make some roasted pumpkin seeds!)

Corn Maze

Get a group together and test out your pioneering skills by navigating your way through a corn maze. It’s a very fun way to spend your night and the environment is welcoming. Grim’s Greenhouse offers a corn maze during the day and night. See who can get through the fastest!

Spooky Movie Night

Gather some friends and stock up on festive snacks and blankets for your Halloween movie marathon. Who doesn’t love a good scary movie? There are so many fun classics (hello, "Hocus Pocus" and "Twitches"???), and if you’re feeling particularly brave you could even search for some actually horror movies on Netflix--"Carrie" is always a solid scary pick. Don’t forget the popcorn!

Here’s a list of some of my favorite Halloween movies:
-Halloweentown Series
-Hocus Pocus
-Nightmare Before Christmas
-Tower of Terror

Apple Picking

There's nothing better than biting into a fresh, crisp apple, especially when it's one you picked yourself. Get a bucket and fill it up with as many apples as you want. Homemade apple pie is the perfect treat on a cool fall day. Sounds pretty good to me.

Grim’s Greenhouse is a popular apple picking place less than 20 minutes away, open seasonally. -- 9941 Schantz Road Breiningsville, PA 18031  (610) 395-5655

Strawberry Acres, in Coplay, PA, is another a great place to pick fresh fruit, and isn't limited to the fall. They supply their own picking containers and offer rides to the field. Check out their website or call (610) 261-2323 for hours.  -- 5120 Overlook Rd, Coplay, PA 18037

Apple Festival 11/07-11/08

The annual Peddler's Village Apple Festival is filled with fun treats--apple pies, apple butter, apple cider, and carmel apples. It’s a celebration of the tasty fruit. There's live music, pie-eating contests, and arts and crafts for sale. Make sure to bring home some sweet treats. It’s a very cute place to visit and walk through in Bucks County.

Saturday 11/07 from 10am-6pm
Sunday 11/08 from 12pm-5pm

41 Peddler's Village Road (Routes 202 and 263) Lahaska, PA 18931 -- (215) 794-4000

Walks in the Park

Enjoy the brisk breeze and some sunshine and get some exercise. It’s very relaxing and can help calm nerves. Don’t forget to bring a camera and take some artsy pictures of the beautiful leaves and decorations. (Make sure to post it and show us! #BuzzMagEHS)

Here’s a list of some great local parks:
-Trexler Memorial Park (*personal fave*)
-The Rodale Fitness Park
-Local neighborhood parks, like Wild Cherry Lane Park

Put on some sneakers and get outside! September through November are the best times to go hiking. The weather isn’t too hot or cold and the scenery is beautiful. There are so many great places to go for a hike around the area. Get in touch with nature and take in the beauty of fall.

Hawk Mountain is my favorite fall-time hike. It isn’t too far and gives you the perfect view of the valley, but there are other great hiking places like Bear Creek. Be adventurous!

Football Games

Sundays are the perfect time to go relax with your family and watch some football. Whether it’s professional, college, or the school’s team, have fun cheering them on. I may not be the biggest sports fan, but I love the atmosphere!

There’s no better time to get carried away in a book than now. Light your favorite fall scent, get a mug full of tea and your cuddliest blanket. There are so many books just waiting to be read.

Here are some of my recommendations:
"The Giver" by Lois Lowry -- Very easy read and was made into a movie
"Paper Towns" by John Green -- If you loved The Fault in Our Stars, you’ll love this
"If I Stay" by Gayle Forman -- Recently adapted into a movie (read the book first!)
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky -- Easy read and one of my favorites
