A Not-So-Sappy Valentine's Day Playlist

1.Eight Days a Week // The Beatles
The Beatles are musical and cultural icons so they’re an obvious choice to start off the playlist right. Eight Days a Week is about loving someone all of the time, eight of seven days per week.

2.First Day of My Life // Bright Eyes
Let’s just start with the line “I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you”. Alright, enough said. I could end it right there because that’s precious, but I’ll go on. The whole song is about how this man’s life changed after meeting the girl he now loves.

3.Crazy For You // Scars on 45
All about hidden love and people that make you feel all fluttery inside. This one is perfect for finally proclaiming your love to the one that’s had your eye for--like--ever.

4.Every Other Freckle // alt-j
Beautifully poetic, yet psychedelic in the way that only alt-j can do.
5.Mess is Mine // Vance Joy
Vance Joy said in an interview that, “It’s about how when you’re in love with someone, you take on the whole package [that person brings]. It’s messy, but the mess of life is the good thing. The special thing about relationships is taking on the good and the bad and the messy aspects.”

6.Como Tú No Hay Dos // Beatriz Luengo
When translated to English, the title roughly means there’s no one like you. Even if you don’t understand the entirely Spanish song, its still really catchy.

7.XO // Beyonce
“Your face is all that I see/I'll give you everything.” Beyonce is singing you a love song in her angelic voice. How could you ask for more?

8.Open // Rhye
Mostly I’m a sucker for singer Milosh’s smooth and jazzy voice because lyrically it isn’t one of the best songs on this list, however that doesn’t mean it should be missed.

9.I Believe In a Thing Called Love // The Darkness
Well the title is self explanatory and this is simply an awesome song to blast through your aux cord and jam to in any situation. “I wanna kiss you every minute, every hour, every day”

10.Toothpaste Kisses // The Maccabees
When you have minty, toothpaste-y kisses with someone, it must be a great relationship. This song is rhymey, catchy, and maybe just a hint of mushy.

11.Such Great Heights // The Postal Service
While taking a listen you might think to yourself, “wow this sure does sound familiar” and that is because the singer is Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard. The lyrics of this song could end wars. I can’t pick just one line so go listen for yourself.

12.Baby I'm Yours // The Arctic Monkeys
The song opens with Alex Turner crooning, “Baby, I'm yours (Baby, I'm yours)/ And I'll be yours until the stars fall from the sky,/Yours, until the rivers all run dry In other words,/ until I die”. He’s a keeper.
13.Crazy For You // Best Coast
A nice little song about how being in love and missing someone can drive you absolutely crazy-- but in a good way.

14.Somebody Loves You // Betty Who
Everyone wants someone who is going to be there through thick and thin with them. Betty Who shows all the ways someone can care, somebody who loves you.

15.I Belong In Your Arms // Chairlift
When you’re in the arms of someone you love, everything seems right. If it weren’t for the upbeat tempo and electronic vibe of this song, the lyrics might be a bit cheesy, but Chairlift is a spectacular group and here’s a great song. There’s also a really rad Japanese version of the song.
