Fall: the season of pumpkin spice candles and warm, knee-high socks. Not only does fall possess exceptionally cute fashion options, but it also includes the wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween just as much as the next girl pretending to be a cat, mouse, or bunny. Thanksgiving, however, presents the opportunity to dress up.
Sweaters, tights, warm socks, and scarves basically make up the entire season of autumn. Thanksgiving, however, allows you to incorporate all of these components while giving you a valid excuse to dress up as much, or as little, as you want.
Not sure what to wear for Thanksgiving? I get it. Thanksgiving is one of the hardest holidays to dress for, considering it has various options for a dressy or a casual outfit. Although it may seem difficult to find, the perfect Thanksgiving ensemble can be easier than you think.
Whether you're feeling fancy or kicking it casual, there are a few items essential for everyone’s Thanksgiving ensemble:
Scarves are crucial, not only to keep warm, but also to dress up, or down, any look. Large, knit infinity scarves are definitely a huge trend during the entire fall season. Whether you rock it with a patterned dress or an oversized sweater, you’re sure to look like a stunner for the holiday.
If you’re looking to add a little something extra to your cranberry-colored dress, look no further! Tights and knee-high socks are the perfect match to your dressy Thanksgiving outfit. Classic, black, sheer tights matched with some grey or cream (depending on the colors in your outfit) knee-highs are sure to make you look 10 times more ready for Thanksgiving. If you’re really feeling daring, you could even go with some sheer, patterned tights.
Of course, we can't forget about the basis of all of fall outfits-- sweaters. (If you're not wearing a sweater, is it even fall?) Incorporating a sweater into your Thanksgiving ensemble is definitely a necessity because there are so many different ways you can pull it off. You could match it with a skirt, some tights, knee highs, and your favorite pair of combat boots and totally pull off a dressy look, whereas matching it with some leggings and an infinity scarf would be perfect for a more casual, comfy look.
If you’re still a bit uncertain on what to wear for the holiday, taking some inspo from others is definitely a good idea.
Emmaus Sophomore Samantha Meyer has her Thanksgiving ensemble planned to a T.
“For Thanksgiving, I normally wear something formal and classy because I’m surrounded by family, but still something trendy and cute,” said Meyer. “Maybe like a dress with some tights and boots.”
Pairing a dress with tights and boots is a definite yes if you’re going for a formal and fashionable look.
Emmaus Sophomore Elyna Villalba plans on staying casual, but still stylish, for the holiday.
“I plan on wearing leggings, beige/cream colored legwarmers, Doc Martens, a beige and cream cardigan, and a white oversized shirt.”
Docs paired with a warm cardigan and an oversized shirt is a great way to showcase your edge in a way that totally works.
No matter what you wear on Thanksgiving, the most important part is spending time with the ones you are thankful for. In the end, you’ll have fun no matter what you wear, dressing up is just the icing on the cake. Or, I guess, whipped cream on the pumpkin pie.
